BACKGROUND
On 22 September 2026, BPSC released the revised detailed notification for the fourth phase of Bihar Teacher Recruitment (TRE-4.0), inviting applications for 32,388 School Teacher posts under the Education Department. Notably, this advertisement (No. 15/2026) cancels and replaces the earlier notification (No. 14/2026) published on 18 August 2026. This makes TRE 4.0 one of the largest ongoing teacher recruitment drives in India, and it is highly relevant for CTET, BTET, and STET-qualified candidates as well as competitive exam aspirants tracking major state-level vacancies.
BPSC TRE 4.0 2026 Overview
Through Advertisement No. 15/2026, BPSC is recruiting eligible Indian citizens for the post of School Teacher (non-gazetted) across four school categories under the Bihar Education Department. The recruitment follows the same One Time Registration (OTR)-based online application system used in earlier TRE phases, via the BPSC portal.

Educational & Training Eligibility
Candidates must meet all of the following:
- Be an Indian citizen
- Hold the educational and training qualification prescribed by NCTE from time to time (RCI norms for special school teachers)
- Have qualified the relevant Teacher Eligibility Test:
- Primary (1–5): CTET Paper-I or BTET Paper-I
- Middle (6–8): CTET Paper-II or BTET Paper-II
- Secondary (9–10) & Special School Teacher: STET Paper-I
- Higher Secondary (11–12): STET Paper-II
Candidates appearing in STET 2026 may also apply, but must clear the STET (objective) exam before the TRE 4.0 written exam — otherwise their e-Admit Card will not be issued. Teachers appointed and working before 2012 who cleared the "Dakshata Pariksha" (competency exam) are exempt from the STET requirement.
Exam Pattern & Selection Process
Selection is based purely on a written objective examination — there is no interview in TRE 4.0.

- Part I – Language (Qualifying): English and Hindi/Urdu/Bangla; minimum 30% qualifying marks required
- Part II – General Studies: Based on SCERT/NCERT syllabus
- Part III – Subject Paper: (for Middle, Secondary & Higher Secondary only) candidates choose their subject paper
Key exam rules:
- Negative marking: 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer
- Each question has 5 options (A–E) — option E means "not willing to answer"; if none of the 5 options are marked, 1/3 mark is still deducted
- Minimum qualifying marks: General – 40%, Backward Class – 36.5%, EBC/SC/ST/Women/PwD – 32% (as per applicable government circulars)
- No re-evaluation provision is available
Importance of PYQs (Previous Year Questions)
Since TRE 4.0 follows the same pattern as TRE 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, practicing previous phase question papers is extremely valuable:
- Understand recurring question patterns: General Studies and subject-paper questions in earlier TRE phases give a clear sense of difficulty level and question style.
- Identify high-weightage topics: Reviewing past papers helps highlight frequently tested SCERT/NCERT-based topics.
- Master the negative marking format: The unique 5-option format (with an "unwilling to answer" option) makes PYQ practice essential to avoid unnecessary negative marking.
- Improve speed for 150 questions in 2:30 hours: Timed PYQ practice builds the pace needed to attempt the full paper comfortably.
- Cross-reference qualifying cutoffs: Practicing with past cutoff trends helps candidates gauge a realistic target score.

Merit List & Preference Rules
- Candidates eligible for more than one class-group category must select their preference order at the time of application. Merit is finalised for the highest-preference category the candidate qualifies for; other preferences are automatically cancelled once selected in a higher one.
- If a candidate is unsuccessful in their top preference, the next preference is considered automatically, in sequence.
- No interview will be conducted at any stage — final selection is purely merit-based on written exam marks.
