UP Revised Eligibility Gazette 2026

    «
  19-Sep-2026

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has approved and issued the Revised Eligibility Gazette Notification 2026, introducing important amendments to the Uttar Pradesh Intermediate Education Act, 1921. The revised provisions establish updated qualification, experience, age, and eligibility requirements for direct recruitment to various teaching and administrative positions in non-government aided secondary educational institutions.

The latest UP Revised Eligibility Gazette 2026 is particularly important for candidates preparing for recruitment to the posts of Principal, Headmaster, Post Graduate Teacher or PGT, and Assistant Teacher (PRT).

Candidates should carefully check the applicable eligibility requirements before submitting their applications through the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC).

UP Revised Eligibility Gazette 2026: Key Highlights

The revised regulations bring changes to the educational qualifications, professional teaching qualifications, experience requirements, TET applicability, and age limits for different posts.

The major points include:

  • Revised eligibility provisions under the Uttar Pradesh Intermediate Education Act, 1921.
  • Updated qualifications for Principal/Headmaster, PGT, and Assistant Teacher posts.
  • B.Ed. is not accepted for primary Assistant Teacher (Classes 1–5) eligibility under the stated revised criteria.
  • TET/CTET Paper 1 is compulsory for primary Assistant Teacher recruitment.
  • TET/CTET is not required for PGT/Lecturer-level direct recruitment under the stated provisions.
  • Specific teaching or administrative experience is prescribed for Principal/Headmaster positions.
  • UPESSC is responsible for the ongoing direct recruitment process.

Principal & Headmaster Eligibility 2026

The revised gazette establishes specific qualification and experience requirements for candidates applying for Principal and Headmaster positions.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a Postgraduate Degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks along with an NCTE-recognized B.Ed. degree.

Special Provision for High School Headmasters

Candidates applying for the Pradhanadhyapak (High School Headmaster) position may also be eligible with a Postgraduate Degree with at least 50% marks and B.P.Ed.

However, according to the stated revised provisions, B.P.Ed. holders are not eligible for the Pradhanacharya position in Intermediate colleges.

Candidates should therefore carefully distinguish between the eligibility requirements for High School Headmaster and Intermediate College Principal posts.

Mandatory Experience

Candidates must possess at least 4 years of continuous teaching experience as either:

  • Lecturer/PGT, or
  • Assistant Teacher/TGT

in higher classes, specifically Classes 9 to 12.

Alternatively, candidates may qualify through 4 years of administrative work experience as a regular Headmaster of a recognized Junior High School, covering Classes 6 to 8.

Experience certificates must be issued or authenticated by the competent authority/officer as prescribed under the applicable regulations.

Age Limit

The minimum age for Principal/Headmaster recruitment is 30 years.

Candidates should verify their age against the relevant cut-off date mentioned in the recruitment notification.

Post Graduate Teacher/PGT Eligibility 2026

The revised eligibility provisions are also applicable to direct recruitment for Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) positions.

Recruitment has commenced for 2,607 PGT vacancies under the updated guidelines, according to the information provided.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a master's degree in the relevant subject from a recognized university along with an NCTE-recognized B.Ed. degree.

The postgraduate qualification should correspond to the subject for which the candidate is applying.

Is TET Required for PGT Recruitment?

Under the stated revised gazette provisions, TET/CTET qualification is not required for direct recruitment to PGT/Lecturer-level posts.

This is an important distinction for candidates because TET requirements differ according to the teaching level.

PGT Age Limit

The prescribed age range for PGT recruitment is:

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: 62 years
  • Age Calculation Date: July 1, 2026

Assistant Teacher Eligibility 2026

The revised regulations also establish eligibility conditions for Assistant Teacher positions in the attached Primary Section/Urban Primary Teacher (PRT) category.

According to the information provided, applications are being invited for 12,405 Assistant Teacher vacancies.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess:

  • A Graduation Degree, and
  • BTC/D.El.Ed. or an equivalent professional teacher training qualification.

The professional teacher-training qualification is an important component of primary teacher eligibility.

B.Ed. Excluded for Primary Assistant Teacher Posts

One of the major changes highlighted in the revised eligibility provisions concerns the B.Ed. qualification.

Candidates holding only a B.Ed. degree are not eligible for primary section Assistant Teacher positions for Classes 1 to 5 under the stated revised criteria.

Therefore, candidates should carefully check whether they possess the prescribed BTC/D.El.Ed. or equivalent qualification before applying.

TET/CTET Paper 1 Requirement

Candidates applying for primary Assistant Teacher positions must qualify for TET/CTET Paper 1 (Primary Level).

Thus, passing the appropriate TET/CTET Paper 1 examination is mandatory for eligibility to apply for these primary teaching positions.

Assistant Teacher Age Limit

The age criteria vary according to the applicable category of Assistant Teacher recruitment.

For Urban Assistant Teachers, the general maximum age limit is 40 years.

For Aided Primary Section Assistant Teachers, the stated provisions prescribe a minimum age of 21 years, with the maximum service age extending up to 62 years, subject to the applicable rules.

Candidates should therefore verify the exact age provisions applicable to their particular recruitment category.

Conclusion

The UP Revised Eligibility Gazette 2026 introduces important changes to the recruitment framework for Pradhyapak, Pradhanacharya, Pradhanadhyapak, and Assistant Teacher positions in aided secondary educational institutions. The revised provisions emphasize appropriate academic qualifications, professional teacher training, relevant teaching or administrative experience, and TET requirements according to the level of teaching.

For candidates targeting PGT recruitment, the relevant master's degree and NCTE-recognized B.Ed. are important eligibility components, while TET/CTET is not required for direct PGT/Lecturer recruitment under the stated provisions. For primary Assistant Teacher recruitment, candidates need the prescribed Graduation and BTC/D.El.Ed. qualification along with TET/CTET Paper 1.

With applications and examinations scheduled for different dates, candidates should complete OTR registration, verify their eligibility, and carefully follow the latest UPESSC recruitment instructions before submitting their forms.
