Teaching is one of the most respected and impactful professions in India. For aspiring educators seeking positions in Central Government institutions—such as Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), and CBSE-affiliated private schools—qualifying the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a mandatory requirement.

Conducted national level by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), CTET evaluates candidates' pedagogical knowledge, subject expertise, and practical understanding of child development. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What are the minimum qualifying marks for CTET 2026 across categories?
+

Candidates from the General / Unreserved category must score a minimum of 60% (90 out of 150 marks) to qualify. Candidates belonging to reserved categories—including OBC, SC, ST, and Persons with Disabilities (PwD)—are granted a 5% relaxation and must score at least 55% (82 out of 150 marks) to pass.

2.  What is the validity period of the CTET certificate?
+

The CTET qualifying certificate holds lifetime validity for appointment purposes. Once qualified, candidates do not need to reappear in future cycles, although they may retake the exam if they wish to improve their score.

3.  Is there any upper age limit or restrictions on the number of attempts?
+

No. There is no upper age limit for taking the CTET examination. Furthermore, there is no limit on the number of attempts allowed; candidates can attempt the exam as many times as they wish.

4.  Can final-year or appearing candidates apply for CTET 2026?
+

Yes. Candidates who are in or pursuing the final year of a recognized teacher training course (such as D.El.Ed, B.Ed, or B.El.Ed) are eligible to apply and sit for the exam. However, they must complete the qualification before final appointment in recruiting schools.

5.  Are B.Ed holders eligible for CTET Paper 1 (Primary Level: Classes I–V)?
+

Following the August 2023 Supreme Court ruling (Devesh Sharma v. Union of India), the NCTE notification allowing B.Ed holders to teach primary classes was quashed. Consequently, D.El.Ed is the requisite qualification for Paper 1, and B.Ed degree holders are advised to focus on Paper 2 (Classes VI–VIII).

6. Is there any negative marking in CTET 2026?
+

No, there is no negative marking in either Paper 1 or Paper 2. Every correct answer carries +1 mark, while wrong or unattempted questions receive 0 marks.

7.  Can I select the same language for Language I and Language II?
+

No. Candidates must choose two distinct languages from the 20 available language options provided by CBSE. Language I typically represents your teaching medium, whereas Language II evaluates communication and basic elements in a second language.

8.  How do candidates receive their official CTET Marksheet and Certificate?
+

After the declaration of results, CBSE uploads digital copies of the CTET Marksheet and Qualifying Certificate to DigiLocker. Candidates can log in to DigiLocker using the credentials sent to their registered mobile numbers to access and download their verified documents.
